Boston, MA (PRWEB) May 17, 2012

Jenne Rayburn jewelry and fashion accessories are designed for the fearlessly fashionable with a vintage taste. Using both found objects and her own line of vintage inspired pieces, Jenne crafts unique bracelets, earrings and necklaces designed around eye catching focal points that are both unpretentious and elegant. Colorful enameled flowers and rhinestone floral spray brooches often take center stage, motivated by a passion for antique and estate jewelry, and a love of gardening, especially the flowering Clematis vines that bloom in her back yard all spring and summer. “Nature is a primary source of inspiration for color, texture and form combinations,” says Jenne Rayburn, founder and designer of Jenne Rayburn Handcrafted Jewelry and Fashion Accessories. “Whether I’m driving New England back roads or wandering conservation land near our house, the juxtaposition of colors, textures, shapes, and symbols are endless.”

Growing up in the rural farming country of southeastern Washington State, Jenne Rayburn recalls that the thrift store was one of the most interesting places to shop. However, it is not just the thrill of the hunt for unique jewelry and home accessories that Jenne loves; it is the places the hunt takes her, and the wonderful people she meets along the way. While her specialty is vintage accessories, jewelry and vintage cloth, circa 1890-1960, she also loves mid-century furniture and antique lighting. “I am endlessly inspired by the gorgeous materials and craftsmanship found in antique and vintage objects, and in their stories – or the stories I imagine,” says Jenne Rayburn. “I’ve loved antiques since the first time my grandmother recounted the story of her heirloom furniture that was buried in her family’s back yard to escape the Chicago fire. For me, wearing vintage jewelry is like traveling back in time.”

An avid traveler, Jenne has lived abroad and she travels extensively, continually honing her unique style and intelligent eye, and with impeccable taste replenishing her collection of vintage and limited edition materials. Scouring local and global markets, auctions, and galleries for eye-catching vintage and antique components, Jenne carefully hand-selects pieces with special details or that have an elegant flair. These enchanting finds are then playfully combined with sometimes unexpected colors and textures to create distinctive, timeless designs. One might find a strand of old Venetian glass with an antique bronze pendant or vintage Swarovski crystals with a japanned black lacquer brooch. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted with care in the designer’s Malden, MA studio.

Whimsical yet sophisticated combinations of color and texture play a huge role in the unique personality of each piece and in the success of a statement necklace. “Our customers are intrigued by the vintage craftsmanship mixed with the contemporary creativity of the collections,” explains Jenne Rayburn. “Our handmade pieces are wonderfully original, combining artistry and imagination with functional details.” Also motivated by the desire to create comfortable jewelry women can wear all day, Jenne continually works to create unique jewelry collections that are bold yet versatile and easy to pair with any outfit. Ergonomics and wear-ability is carefully integrated into the unique personality of each piece, resulting in handcrafted jewelry with personality that you can live in.

It’s every woman’s dream to own beautiful, confidence building jewelry. The right accessories can transform a simple, everyday top or dress into the outfit everyone remembers. While each woman is different, being genuine and original is key to a successful style. Rayburn advises, “Be true to yourself, and try not to be concerned with trends or the opinions of others. Whether you love big, bright, contemporary statement earrings, or your grandmother’s favorite necklace, accessorize yourself with what brings you happiness.” Jenne believes that every day brings a new opportunity for self-expression. Adornment should be inspiring and a reflection of your individuality. When you feel good about yourself, you approach the world with confidence, which is the ultimate in polish and style.

Jenne Rayburn is a Boston-based jewelry/textile artist who also studied interior design and architecture, and her work evolves from the overlap between architecture, design, technology and art. Jenne is known for her designs made from reusing vintage textiles, findings and components, found while foraging in antique shops and vintage markets. A graduate of the University of Washington where she studied metalsmithing and fiber arts, and of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a MS in Design, Jenne has been designing jewelry and apparel for over 20 years.

(PRWEB) May 13, 2012

After two years of trials and research, the UK’s largest ever man-made wildflower meadows were sown this week to flower gold around the Olympic Stadium in 77 days’ time.

The riverbank meadows of bee-friendly cornflowers, marigolds, Californian poppies and prairie flowers have been especially designed to flower late by international wildflower expert Professor Nigel Dunnett from the University of Sheffield. They will bloom gold just in time for the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.

The sowing of the last of more than ten football fields’ worth of nectar-rich wildflower meadows marks the final preparations of the gardens, lawns, woodlands and wetlands that will provide the colourful setting for the Games and become a new park for people and wildlife for generations to come.

The bulk of the planting of the 4,000 trees, 300,000 wetland plants, 15,000 square metres of lawns and more than 150,000 perennial plants and bushes in the Olympic Park and Village was completed in the autumn by the Olympic Delivery Authority. Throughout the winter and spring the dedicated team of specialist gardeners and horticulturists have been battling the elements to ensure that the Park reaches its colourful peak this summer. This has included wrapping trees through winter and cutting back thousands of early-flowering plants so that they reach their best in July.

Across the UK experts and novices are getting together with friends, families and neighbours to ‘Garden for the Games’ and bring the excitement of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to their area. Thousands have already signed up to be Local Leaders, pupils at Garnetbank Primary School in Glasgow have planted a wildflower meadow in their school playground and residents on Poplar, Tower Hamlets are brightening up their estate with wildflowers this summer. People can find out how to sow theur own wildflower meadow at http://www.london2012.com/localleaders

Seb Coe, Chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee, said: ‘After completing our successful series of London Prepares test events we are preparing the Olympic Park to host millions of spectators this summer. Alongside fitting out the venues, installing hundreds of temporary buildings and a range of facilities for spectators and the workforce we are putting the finishing touches on the gardens, lawns and meadows that will provide the colourful setting for the Games.

‘The wildflower meadows timed to flower around the Stadium in July are just one example of the painstakingly detailed and innovative work of the team of experts that have created the Olympic Park that will be enjoyed by spectators during the Games and for generations to come.’

Professor Nigel Dunnett, University of Sheffield, said:

‘After years of preparation and two practice runs we have sown the final meadows that will run like a ribbon of gold around the Olympic Stadium. In just a few weeks visitors to the Olympic Park and TV viewers will see areas of flat mud transformed into waist-high wildflower meadows buzzing with bees and butterflies. London 2012 is a great opportunity to get out and Garden for the Games by sowing your own wildflower meadow. With a bag of seed from your local garden centre you and your neighbours can quickly and cheaply brighten up your area and give your local wildlife a boost.’

Sarah Raven, presenter of recent BBC2 documentary ‘Bees, butterflies and blooms’ and author of ‘Wild Flowers’, said:

’There’s no better way to get almost instant colour and nectar into your garden than sowing an annual meadow mix – and with all this rain, it could not be a better time. Give the area a quick rake and then just scatter the seeds into any bare bit of ground in the sunshine. Within weeks the Olympic Park and potentially your garden will be ablaze with abundant colour as well as butterflies and bees, with all the food being provided. Do your own bit and join this brilliant initiative.’

Dennis Hone, Chief Executive of the Olympic Delivery Authority, said:

‘As we head towards the Games, the Olympic Park is really starting to take shape. In the space of just a few years, a predominantly neglected industrial area has been completely transformed as we cleaned and reshaped the land before planting thousands of trees and plants. The wildflower meadows are a timely reminder at just how close to the Games we are getting and their colourful depth and design is a tribute to the UK’s horticultural expertise.’

Olympic Park meadows

 More than 10 hectares of annual and perennial meadows have been created in the Olympic Park, designed and sown to flower during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

 The annual meadows around the Olympic Stadium are a vivid combination of tickseed, cornflower, corn marigold, star of the veldt from South Africa, Californian poppy and plains coreopsis, which moves from yellow and blue in July to gold in August.

 The meadows, which are sown on an annual basis, have been trialled during the last two years to perfect the team’s extensively researched technique of irrigation, late sowing and cutting back that will ensure the flowers peak for the Opening Ceremony in 2012.

 A combination of shorter and taller perennial meadows, which require only a single seeding, were sown two years ago across the Olympic Park to allow plenty of time for them to establish before the Games. Many of these seeds were frozen to trick them into thinking they had over-wintered to quicken germination and ensure they flower in time.

 The shorter meadows on drier sunny slopes are a colourful mix of thyme, calamint, origanum, viper’s bugloss and wild carrot. The taller meadows on shadier slopes include musk mallow, meadow cranesbill, devil’s bit scabious, red clover, bloody cranesbill and great burnet.

 The meadows have been designed to be nectar- and pollen-rich, diverse, and with a long flowering season to encourage a range of bees, butterflies, birds, moths and other insects. Specific plants and flower species have been selected to encourage particular wildlife – for example, the marsh fritillary butterfly needs devil’s bit scabious for its caterpillars and burnet moths congregate around knapweed flowers.

 The meadows are being sown in specially designed low-nutrient soil, with a high sand content, to ensure a diverse mix of flowers and to discourage weeds.

 After the Games the meadows will gradually incorporate a range of grasses, naturally and through oversowing, so they become self-sustaining and support particular butterfly larvae such as meadow brown.

Parklands fact-file:

Features of the Olympic Park parklands during and after the Games include:

 4,000 new 4-7-metre-high semi-mature trees, with more than 2,000 trees grown in Hampshire already planted in the Olympic Park, including Wild and Bird Cherry, Ash, Hazel, White Willow, Crack Willow, Alder, Aspen, Holm Oak, English Oak, Rowan, Lime, Field Maple, Sweet Gum and Silver Birch. The trees will provide shelter from wind and sunshine across the Park. Willow, Poplar and Alder have been planted in river areas to withstand flooding and species vulnerable to climate change have been avoided.

 More than ten football fields’ worth of nectar-rich annual and perennial meadows were designed to flower during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

 Wetland bowls and rare wet woodlands in the north of the Park create habitat and help manage floodwater, protecting new housing and venues and 5,000 existing properties from a 1:100 year storm.

 300,000-plus wetland plants, grown in Norfolk and Wales, have been planted as part of the UK’s largest ever urban river and wetland planting. More than 30 species of native reeds, rushes, grasses, sedges, wet wildflowers and irises have been grown initially on the Gower peninsula in Wales, with around a third grown from cuttings and seeds collected from the Olympic Park before construction started. The plants have been grown-on in coir mats sunk in waterbeds in Thetford and are now being transported and planted on the Olympic Park riverbanks.

 The riverside London 2012 Garden stretches for half a mile between the Aquatics Centre and Olympic Stadium on land that has been cleaned and cleared of railway sidings, contamination and Japanese Knotweed. The garden celebrates centuries of British passion for gardens and collecting plants, with picnic lawns, timber seating and 120,000 plants from 250 different species across the world arranged into four temperate regions: Europe, Americas, Asia and the Southern Hemisphere.

 A riverside Royal Horticultural Society Great British Garden overlooks the Olympic Stadium, featuring Bronze, Silver and Gold areas with matching colour wildflowers and grasses, features and running-track inspired spiral paths. The Garden also includes a ‘de Coubertin oak’, from an acorn collected from the tree that Baron Pierre De Coubertin planted in 1894 to thank the citizens of Much Wenlock in Shropshire for inspiring the founding of the modern Olympic Games.

 New habitats for species including: otter, kingfisher, grey heron, bee, house sparrow, bat, song thrush, starling, toadflax brocade moth, lizard, black redstart, flower and fungus beetle, frogs, newts and toads, eel, water vole, slow worm, grass snake, linnet, sand martin, swift, and invertebrates.

 Feature planting designed by the Klassnik Corporation, We Made That and Riitta Ikonen – an art collective based in the Host Boroughs – and the University of Sheffield to represent the industrial heritage of the Olympic Park site.

 250 benches and more than 3,300 seats built into the parklands so that people are never more than a 50-metre walk from a seat.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) May 09, 2012

Sporting new hull colors, interior spaces, furnishings and amenities, the 86-guest Safari Endeavour and 76-guest Wilderness Explorer emerge from major renovation projects on May 18, 2012 for a dual-boat christening event in Seattle and a summer season of un-cruise adventures in Alaska. InnerSea Discoveries/American Safari Cruises operates three expedition vessels and three yachts in scenic destinations including Alaska, Mexico’s Sea of Cortés, Pacific Northwest and the Hawaiian Islands.

“We’ve invested in these two boats to ensure maximum comfort, adventure and unsurpassed value for our guests,” said Tim Jacox, executive vice president of sales and marketing. “Whether you choose the inclusive yacht or the expedition vessel, the value and quality of our un-cruise adventure package will be remarkable.”

In true maritime tradition, both boats will be welcomed into the fleet with a crack of champagne across the bow at a gathering of company executives, employees, friends and family on Friday, May 18, 2012. The 5:30 pm christening event is open to the public and will be held outside office headquarters at Seattle’s Fishermen’s Terminal.

The 86-guest Safari Endeavour joins American Safari Cruises’ upscale fleet of yachts—all with navy blue hulls and exceptional comfort and refined atmosphere on board. The guest capacity has been reduced from 102 to 86 guests with a mix of twin (some convertible) and king beds. During renovation, four Commodore Suites were created by merging eight former staterooms and adding new step-out balconies and Jacuzzi tubs. Four more stateroom categories include three Masters, 21 Commanders, 12 Captains and three Admirals, all with one or two outside view windows. All rooms have flatscreen TVs/DVDs and iPod docks.

During an 11-month renovation, interior spaces were updated with higher-end furnishings and fixtures and new spaces and amenities added. In the main dining room, a wine bar and a resource library have been created to provide two new gathering places to relax and read or enjoy a glass of wine. Other additions include six microbrews and eight Proletariat wines on tap in the lounge bar, new outside decks and a keyboard and flatscreen TV for presentations in the lounge. The dining room and lounge also received updated décor and an improved public announcement system.

Wellness facilities added to the Safari Endeavour include two massage rooms, two hot tubs, sauna, yoga mats for yoga classes on deck and fitness equipment. Two wellness directors provide a complimentary massage to each guest and lead morning yoga classes. Carrying 20 double-kayaks, a high-tech kayak launching platform was added to the stern to quickly launch four kayaks at a time.

The 76-guest Wilderness Explorer, now painted with InnerSea Discoveries’ signature forest green hull, joins the active adventure fleet in Alaska this summer. During a seven-month renovation, refinements were made throughout the vessel. Staterooms were refreshed with new décor, linens, flatscreen TVs/DVDs and iPod docks. Three cabin categories consist of 21 Trailblazer, 13 Pathfinder and 4 Explorer cabins. Bed configurations include twin or queen with many more made convertible during renovation. In the lounge bar, guests will find eight microbrews and two Proletariat wines on tap. A new buffet in the dining room will streamline meal service usually held buffet-style to ensure maximum flexibility with adventure activities. Other shipboard amenities include complimentary on-deck yoga classes, a large resource library, well-stocked DVD library and board games. A professional masseuse is part of the crew and massages are available for a fee.

Wellness facilities added include a hot tub on the bow, sauna and fitness equipment on the sun deck, and a massage room. A new swim step has been added to the ship’s main deck aft and serves as a launch pad for excursions. The boat carries 28 kayaks and hosts a state-of-the-art kayak launch platform able to quickly and safely launch four kayaks at once.

An innovative human-powered watercraft, built especially for the company, will be on board the Wilderness Explorer for guest use. Powered by two peddlers and up to six paddlers, it can be taken out for low-impact, up-close exploration of remote areas closed to motorized vessels in Glacier Bay.

The Safari Endeavour will sail weeklong, inclusive luxury adventure cruises in Alaska roundtrip Juneau from June to August. Guests enjoy the luxury of two days exploring inside Glacier Bay National Park with opportunities to hike and kayak with park rangers. Seven theme cruises feature guest presenters or performers and a $ 518 per couple travel credit commemorating the christening of the vessel May 18. From November through April, the Safari Endeavour sails weeklong Baja’s Bounty adventures in Mexico’s Sea of Cortés.

The Wilderness Explorer sails weeklong active adventure cruises in Alaska between Juneau and Sitka (and reverse) from June through August. The itinerary includes three full days exploring inside Glacier Bay National Park including the lesser visited but equally spectacular East Arm with McBride Glacier and Muir Glacier.

Un-cruise fares in Alaska start at US$ 4,795 aboard the Safari Endeavour and US$ 3,095 aboard the Wilderness Explorer, per person based on double occupancy. Adventure activities are included on both boats: hiking, kayaking, skiff excursions, whale watching, paddle boarding. Yachts and expedition vessels can be booked as a private charter or by individual stateroom.
Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 04, 2012

Today, Admiral Michael G. Mullen, United States Navy-Retired, honored Colonel David W. Sutherland, United States Army-Retired, for his many years of dedication and service during a retirement ceremony held at Arlington National Cemetery. Immediately following, Colonel Sutherland and Lieutenant Commander Kim Mitchell, formerly of the United States Navy, and Easter Seals, Inc., the nation’s leading disability services organization, announced a new partnership to develop a nationwide network of collaborative, community-based services and supports for military service members, veterans and their families.

The two will team up to dramatically expand Easter Seals’ role as a service provider and collaborator across America to close persistent, systemic and harmful gaps that diminish opportunities and the quality of life for millions of military service members, veterans and their families. The new partnership’s focus will be to directly assist thousands with reintegration, employment, health status and family stability, as well as expand options for housing, transportation and recreation.

“Together, we’ll work to build public awareness, encourage community involvement and promote community services while channeling resources and enabling those that have served our nation through a community-based model of collaboration,” says Colonel David W. Sutherland, United States Army, Retired and former Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

“We recognize that the urgent needs facing the community of military and veterans today will only be compounded by new and pressing needs among tens of thousands of service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Yet, the existing and probable safety net is distressingly inadequate,” says James E. Williams, Jr., president and chief executive officer, Easter Seals. “In partnership with Colonel Sutherland, we’re ready, able and committed to enhance our network and the communities we serve to better assist service members, veterans and their families with the depth and support they deserve.”

To date, there are 47,740 wounded military from Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts
Eleven to 20 percent of veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan and 30 percent of Vietnam-era veterans live with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
In just over 10 years, nearly 250,000 soldiers have been diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injury
An estimated 18 veterans commit suicide every day; since 2001, 2,293 U.S. military have committed suicide.
Twenty-seven percent of troops returning from Iraq/Afghanistan abuse alcohol
One-fifth of the homeless population are veterans – 107,000 on a given night
The divorce rate for military families increased by 38 percent from 2001 to 2010
In 2011, the unemployment rate for Gulf-war era veterans rose to 12.1 percent; for women, it’s 12.4 percent

Washington, DC (PRWEB) April 27, 2012

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) is pleased to announce the addition of four new members to its Board of Directors. The Foundation’s new board members include:

Omar Abdi, comptroller of UNICEF
Kathleen Cravero, president of the Oak Foundation
Paula A. Kerger, president and chief executive officer of PBS
George W. Wellde, Jr., retired vice chairman of the securities division at Goldman Sachs

“We are delighted to welcome four new board members to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation,” said Willow Bay and Russ Hagey, Foundation Board Co-Chairs. “Their diversity of experience and deep commitment to children will be instrumental to achieving the goal of ending pediatric AIDS worldwide.”

The Foundation was started in 1988 by AIDS activist and mother Elizabeth Glaser to provide a voice for children and families living with HIV, and to spur much-needed research into pediatric HIV/AIDS. In the past decade, the Foundation has also grown into a major global implementer of HIV prevention and care and treatment programs. The Foundation is one of the largest providers of services to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) in sub-Saharan Africa, and a leader in the global movement to end new HIV infections in children around the world.

Omar Abdi was appointed comptroller of UNICEF in January of 2011. Since joining UNICEF in 1992, Mr. Abdi has served as UNICEF Representative in both Liberia and Ghana, taken the lead on programs aimed at aiding women and children in Pakistan, and was key in coordinating emergency response efforts to the earthquakes that devastated the country in 2005. A Somali-born Canadian, Mr. Abdi holds degrees in civil engineering, regional planning, and development economics.

Kathleen Cravero was appointed president of the Oak Foundation in February of 2009. In that capacity, she assists the Oak Foundation’s Trustees to lead efforts within the six focus areas of the Oak Foundation: Environment, Child Abuse, Housing & Homelessness, International Human Rights, Issues Affecting Women, and Learning Differences. Prior to joining the Oak Foundation, Ms. Cravero worked for a number of human rights-oriented organizations, including UNAIDS, UNICEF, UNDP, and WHO. At UNDP, she chaired the Steering Committee of “Stop Rape Now – UN Action Against Sexual Violence in Conflict.” Ms. Cravero holds a Ph.D in Political Science and a Masters in Public Health.

Paula A. Kerger is president and CEO of PBS, the U.S.’s largest non-commercial media organization with more than 350 member stations. Since her arrival at PBS in 2006, Ms. Kerger has made particularly strong commitments to the arts, news and public affairs, education, diversity, and the use of new technology to expand access to public media. In addition, Ms. Kerger is president of the PBS Foundation, an independent organization that raises private sector funding for PBS. Prior to joining PBS, Ms. Kerger served for more than a decade at Educational Broadcasting Corporation, the parent company of Thirteen/WNET.

George W. Wellde, Jr. served as vice chairman of the securities division at Goldman Sachs & Company from 2005 until his retirement in 2008. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs in 1979, he worked for the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. Mr. Wellde joined the University of Richmond’s Board of Trustees in 2000, and served as its chairman from 2006 to 2010. Mr. Wellde also serves on the Board of Trustees of George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and has been a member of its Investment Committee since 2004.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) April 23, 2012

Smith & Associates, the leader in the independent distribution of semiconductors and electronic components to electronics and high-tech manufacturers, today announced that the city of Houston has recognized the company as the winner of the first-ever Greatest Implementation of Green Building Innovations award. This highest honor, awarded by Houston’s groundbreaking Green Office Challenge program, recognizes Smith & Associates for its ongoing efforts to become fully sustainable and carbon-neutral in its campuses and operations at home and around the world.

“Being classified as an industry leader in sustainability is especially meaningful to us, as we dedicate a lot of effort to maximizing sustainability in both our offices and in our supply-chain operations worldwide,” said Art Figueroa, environmental director of Smith & Associates. “We’re honored that Smith received such a highly-regarded award by the city of Houston, where we’ve had our global headquarters for almost three decades. Our goal moving forward will be to continue to expand our sustainable initiatives globally and to ensure environmental responsibility.”

Beginning in mid-September, the city of Houston challenged companies citywide to demonstrate leadership in environmental performance by taking measures to assure environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and, as the opportunities arose, ENERGY STAR and LEEDTM-rated certifications. Smith, with its commitment to become fully sustainable and carbon-neutral by 2020, incorporated the challenge into its ongoing improvement plans that included a state-of-the-art, air-cooled HVAC system, temperature-sensitive solar energy systems, companywide recycling efforts and other ‘greenovation’ measures. The following are some of the major green building innovations and sustainability management programs implemented at Smith’s global headquarters located in Houston:

Changing out asphalt roof with eco-friendly materials cool roof and solar TPO poly roof system;
Solar photovoltaic rooftop system that can generate 91.08KW of solar power;
Solar thermal rooftop system to heat 115 gallons of water/day up to 140 degrees for office use;
Solar photovoltaic parking system to provide shade and electric car recharging stations for employees;
LED interior and exterior lighting systems with motion and light sensors, respectively;
Replacement of compressed gas HVAC system with air-cooled chiller towers, exterior water pumps, and chill water air handling units;
Development of Smith Sustainability Group (SSG), an employee-directed sustainability group that meets weekly to monitor, promote and implement green initiatives and sustainability management for Smith;
Smith provides two 2012 Chevy Volt electric-only cars for Smith employees as part of an incentive system in which high performers have full use of the car for one month. This raises awareness and familiarity of electric vehicles and smart transportation choices in a hands-on way for employees.

Smith’s recognition as a leader in environmental sustainability is a direct result of an ongoing commitment to become a green company of the future. The next phase of Smith’s corporate sustainability campaign will be the company’s ongoing greenovation of Smith’s other domestic and international offices. With offices worldwide, including Europe and Asia, Smith intends to build upon its successes locally and expand its service programs in 2012 to meet customer needs.

“Smith pledges to think, act and operate green,” said Figueroa. “Receiving the honor of overall winner for the first Green Office Challenge is a true affirmation of our ongoing efforts. The event itself is a notable testament to the rapid growth and progress that Houston, as a community, has made in living a green and sustainable lifestyle.”

For more information on Smith and Associates’ green initiatives, please visit: http://www.smithweb.com/en/company/smith-and-the-environment

About Houston’s Green Office Challenge

The goal of the Houston Green Office Challenge is to equip and motivate property owners and managers throughout Houston to reduce their energy consumption, waste production, and water usage, as well as to encourage more office tenants to adopt sustainable practices like recycling, carpooling, and green product purchasing.

According to Todd Vogelsinger, Columbia’s Director of Marketing, “These days, when people make the hard decision to invest in their home or in new furnishings; they want to make sure they’re receiving the best value possible.”

“Our new tagline, ‘Everyone Deserves Quality™,’ is being introduced with the new PureBond website, and expresses the message that PureBond plywood is the highest-value option for consumers who seek beautiful, North American-made, all-wood materials with zero added formaldehyde to be used in their furniture, cabinetry and fixtures,” he said.

“They’ll appreciate the difference while they live there, and in the case of cabinetry and built-ins, they’ll offer excellent selling points when they go to sell their home,” Vogelsinger added.

PureBond plywood offers the beauty and enduring quality that can only be found in real hardwood panels. But PureBond is also a healthy choice for homeowners and their families because it is made with an EPA award-winning, soy-based no added formaldehyde technology.

Targeting Today’s More Careful Customer

The PureBond consumer-focused website is being launched at a time when the residential housing industry is emerging from an extended period of stagnation; there is renewed interest in buying new homes or undertaking remodeling projects, but with a few new caveats.

While kitchen cabinets, shelving and other furnishings are still at the core of the home planning and design process, many consumers are looking for the rich, warm appeal of American hardwoods while balancing quality and cost, plus eliminating any potential sources of indoor air pollution like volatile organic compounds that can off-gas from inferior composite wood products. PureBond panels satisfy these requirements and more, as the website explains.

Product and Fabricator Sourcing

The site includes easy search tools for locating qualified PureBond Fabricator Network members, along with information on PureBond products that are stocked at most Home Depot stores across the United States and Canada. A growing number of profiles of fabricators who are members of PureBond Fabricators Network will be added to the website in the coming months.

Product and Process De-Mystification

The new PureBond website helps take the complexity out of the shopping process by providing answers for people who are looking for education and guidance.

For example, the website contains a robust “design inspiration” zone that provides ideas for their cabinetry, closet and storage systems, built-in case goods and furniture – even wall panels. Users can view uses of the hardwood plywood panels, along with browsing an extensive image gallery of inspired installations.

Ideas and Fun

A new, virtual “PureBond® House” helps visitors visualize their options for using PureBond panels in the kitchen, family room, home office, bedrooms and nursery, bathrooms, the laundry room and other spaces through cabinetry, closet and storage systems, built-in case goods, furniture and wainscoting.

Other project planning resources on the website provide “how-to” guidance for kitchen layouts, remodeling and measuring tips, and wood finishing guidelines.

Celebrity Woodworking Expert

Of particular interest to the woodworking DIY community is a special section of furniture plans and project guides developed exclusively for PureBond by Ana White, whose blog, http://www.ana-white.com, is the web’s most popular source for handmade furniture plans.

Unique PureBond Veneer Core Panel Attributes

While PureBond “all-wood” veneer core panels carry the timeless warmth of real wood in traditional or contemporary styles, they also offer strong, durable performance that is highly suited for cabinets, closets, shelving, bookcases and other furnishings – especially when compared to panels made out of particleboard, MDF or other “manufactured wood” materials.

For bathrooms, laundry rooms and other “damp” environments in particular, PureBond panels feature water resistance properties superior to particleboard and other alternative panel constructions.

Something many people learn about after the fact is the relative weight advantage of PureBond veneer core panels and the finished goods that are built with them. It’s about 30% lighter than comparably-sized composite materials, which can make a big difference when handling panels during fabrication, installing cabinets, or just moving furniture around.

Another important benefit of PureBond products is their reputation for being a healthy, green choice. Because of their formaldehyde-free nature, they are particularly well-suited for homeowners who are concerned about healthy indoor air quality (IAQ) for themselves and their families.

Healthy IAQ is important because indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than the outside air. Not everyone notices the symptoms of poor indoor air quality, although some people may be more susceptible to upper respiratory tract infections. Dizziness, nausea and asthma are other, more serious symptoms that may result from poor indoor air quality.

Easy-to-Order Samples

Visitors to the new website can order a free 6” x 6” sample PureBond panel to “see, feel and touch” the quality and craftsmanship that goes into making this healthy, family-friendly hardwood plywood product.

Wilmington, NC (PRWEB) April 09, 2012

Some exterior contractors in the U.S. have noted a decrease in home improvement project sales in 2011 but are looking for gains in 2012 as the real estate market and economic environment begin to stabilize. Advanced Metal Roofing is proud to note that they were among the top two hundred leading exterior contractors nationwide in a survey published by Qualified Remodeler’s Exterior Contractor Magazine. The company was ranked #54 for the year 2011. This marks a significant increase for the company from a previous ranking of over one hundred.

The Exterior 200 is a list of leading specialty contractors in the remodeling industry ranked by dollar volume. Exterior contractors on this list include those for whom more than 50 percent of their business comprises roofing, sunrooms, windows, doors, decks, porches, outdoor living areas, siding and other exterior home improvement jobs such as gutter installation.

Advanced Metal Roofing specializes in residential metal roofing and offers the exclusive MetalMan Roofing System. Currently, their service area includes North Carolina and upper South Carolina. The MetalMan Roofing System offers homeowners a visually attractive, durable metal roof with fade-free Kynar paint and significant energy savings. The virtually seamless roof panels are resistant to mildew, mold, rust, and debris build-up and are available in a range of colors to complement most any home.

In 2011, Advanced Metal Roofing completed over 450 roofing jobs throughout North Carolina. Their focus on metal roofing exclusively with the MetalMan Roofing System means they bring a great deal of experience and expertise to every job. “We believe in the value of the MetalMan Roofing System for homeowners, “comments Advanced Metal Roofing owner Jim Kenton. “It offers lifetime advantages including protection, durability, and energy savings with virtually no maintenance. Plus, choosing Advanced Metal Roofing means choosing an expert, knowledgeable, and experienced team for installing your new metal roof.”

(PRWEB) April 12, 2012

A new member of Sweepstakes Advantage recently shared an inspiring story of how she was enthused to enter sweepstakes and join SA after hearing the story of a woman who has traveled around the world after winning sweepstakes and has taken home the newest gadgets as prizes and giveaways.

“Sweepstakes Advantage really works,” said Sweepstakes Advantage member “Mckennakayle” (not real name), as she shares her story of how she used to not care about sweepstakes, but is now into sweeping and has already won great prizes after just becoming a member of Sweepstakes Advantage.

According to her post on the Sweepstakes Advantage Forum, Mckennakayle incidentally watched a 20/20 episode where a lady talked about her wins, such as taking home six (6) electronic devices including some iPads. The lucky sweepstakes winner on the show also said that she did not have to join travel sweepstakes anymore as she has already traveled around the world.

“She had won cars and stuff to outfit a house,” said Mckennakayle, sounding completely astounded of her inspiration’s wins. “I thought wow, well it would be cool to at least dream of what I could win. So, I Googled sweepstakes and Sweepstakes Advantage came up, they have been my most visited web page since fall.”

Mckennakayle joined Sweepstakes Advantage in August 7, 2011. On her first month, her winning included a $ 30,000 credit for a Chrysler vehicle, and they ended up picking out a new loaded Chrysler Town and Country minivan for her family. On the second month, she won a pair of garnet earrings worth $ 400, and on the third month, she was just so happy to actually win a teddy bear. Just last month, she received a win that entitled her to a year’s supply of Rusk hair care products.

“I can say I am sold on SA and I will keep playing as long as they are around and I am able,” Mckennakayle said.

Meanwhile, several other members reacted to Mckennakayle’s story. Sweepstakes Advantage member, Kacor7 (not real name), said, “I agree. SA is a great site. They really work hard to keep us informed of new sweepstakes in such a timely, organized fashion. I visit this site every day as well (for several hours) and I would be lost without it. Congrats and I hope your wins continue to grow.”

Other members were also amazed at how a new sweeper can start off grand. PMeek (not real name), said, “Wowza, Can’t say as I have ever seen anyone start off as grand! That is wonderful. Congratulations and thank you for sharing your story with us!”

Tigger12 (not real name) said, “Wow that is amazing! You are doing incredible. Your wins give me inspiration. I’ve been sweeping for two years and dream of winning a car. How exciting! Congratulations and keep those amazing wins coming in.”

Kenneth Carlos, founder & CEO of Sweepstakes Advantage, congratulated Mckennakayle for her wins and was happy that the member posted her very interesting story that would inspire many sweepers and aspiring winners.
